flare-fullSAUGEEN FIRST NATION – On June 21st, 2013, members of the Bruce Peninsula OPP were conducting traffic control on Highway 21, Saugeen First Nation.

At 1:23p.m., Provincial Constable Bryan Boshold was alerted to a structure fire by a concerned citizen at a residence not far from where he was conducting traffic control. Const. Boshold immediately responded and ran to the residence. He approached the front door and tried to enter.

After determining that the door was locked, he breached the door and entered the residence as there was indication there was someone in the house.

While inside the residence, thick black smoke from the fire had completely engulfed the entire dwelling, forcing Const. Boshold to crawl throughout the house to check for occupants. After a short period of time, he discovered an unconscious male in a bedroom. The male was roused and brought out of the house.

Unsure if there were further casualties, Const. Boshold re-entered the house and completed his search. He suffered effects from smoke inhalation and was brought to hospital for treatment.

The resident of the house did not suffer any injuries.

The house fire was deemed to be non-suspicious and caused by faulty wiring in the kitchen area of the residence.

On November 20th, 2014 Const. Boshold was awarded a Commissioner's Citation for Bravery. This citation is for members who knowingly put himself or herself at great risk during protection of life or property. It involves the threat of serious bodily harm or death and that there is imminent danger.

Bryan Boshold started his policing career in 1996. He has served at several detachments since then including that OF Chatham and Still River. He has been posted to the Bruce Peninsula OPP for almost 10 years.
