South Bruce Peninsula Town ofMayor Janice Jackson has officially declared a state of emergency in response to COVID-19.

“Critical days and weeks lay ahead and we must do what we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” Mayor Jackson says. “We must do everything in our power to protect our community and making this declaration now will enable us to act quickly and with broader authority should situations arise”.

Declarations of emergency are made by the Mayor under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, RSO 1990 when an emergency requires immediate action to protect property and the health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants of the municipality.

“I want to emphasize this is a proactive and precautionary step. We are continually monitoring this issue and will now be in a better position to take broader action if needed.”

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula urges all residents to stay home, to practice social distancing and to practice proper hygiene protocols as outlined by the Provincial Medical Officer of Health: https://www.ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus.
