day careThe Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board (BGCDSB) is pleased to announce that the Board has approved Allen-Hastings Limited as the contractor for the Childcare addition at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School Walkerton, at a cost of $1,468,489.00.

The Ministry of Education had approved the funding for the addition of two classrooms to support a toddler room and a preschool room. The addition will create 39 additional spaces.

The funding is part of Ontario’s plan to create 45,000 new licensed child care spaces in schools, communities and other public spaces by funding almost 500 new child care rooms at 188 schools across the province. As a result of this investment, more than 8,400 children and their families will gain access to high-quality licensed care in a safe, convenient setting. In addition, the province is increasing operating funding and subsidies to help more children aged 0-4 years access quality child care. Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron Bruce says ““The funding for this child care addition to St. Teresa of Calcutta is great news for the Walkerton community. This investment will provide choice and flexibility for families and new opportunities for the children. I am pleased that our government is investing in the future of students and hard-working families in our community.”

Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody expresses his thanks to BGCDSB, “The Municipality of Brockton is very thankful for the BGCDSB going the extra mile in securing the extra capital funding for the daycare. We also thank Minister Thompson for her ongoing support of the daycare and of rural municipalities.”

Bruce-Grey CDSB is very pleased to proceed with this build through our COVID-19 mobilization strategy, and continue our partnership with the Brockton Child Care Centre, demonstrating our mission to “ensure quality learning experiences through community partnerships”. Chair of the Board, Lori Di Castri, was pleased that the project can now move forward. “We (at BGCDSB) are very excited to be able to move ahead at this time with the expansion and addition of childcare spaces at St. Teresa of Calcutta. The additional childcare spaces will serve to strengthen existing relationships and give us an opportunity to share our facility with even more members of our community.”
