housingGreen Party of Ontario Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the lack of investment in supportive housing in yesterday’s budget:

“The Premier is in denial when it comes to Ontario’s housing crisis since it’s completely missing from his recent budget.

Housing affordability affects everyone, though it hits the most vulnerable the hardest, increasing homelessness and tent cities across the province.

By omitting supportive housing in the budget, Ford is choosing to ignore the urgent needs of vulnerable people.

Many of these folks face mental health challenges as well.

They need investments in supportive housing that include wrap-around mental health and addiction services.

Premier, you keep telling people to stay home. But you can’t stay home if you don’t have a home.

Supportive housing is essential to ending homelessness and a vital part of a mental health and addictions strategy.

I’m calling on the Premier to make supportive housing a priority and invest in the health and safety of the most vulnerable Ontarians.”
