Cst. C MartinThe Owen Sound Police Service is pleased to announce that effective July 12th, 2021, Constable Chevonne Martin has been reassigned to the Service’s Community Oriented Response (CORE) Unit. The Community Oriented Response Unit’s primary role is to provide problem-oriented policing in “hotspot” areas and in support of our downtown core business areas, parks and tourism areas where high visibility and targeted policing can be most effective.

Chief Craig Ambrose advises “This is an important part of our policing strategy moving forward, to be able to work proactively in addressing community concerns and focussing on areas most in need of policing support and interventions. This will also allow us to build better relationships and provide more support to our community members who may be marginalized or disadvantaged.” The CORE Unit was disbanded a number of years ago when staffing shortages required the CORE officers to be redeployed to front line, reactive response duties. Chief Ambrose further advised “Our ability to reinstate this Unit was a direct result of our Police Services Board recognizing the importance of this type of response option here in Owen Sound and approving the required staffing increase to make it a reality”.

Constable Martin is an experienced officer with 12 years service with the Owen Sound Police Service and is looking forward to her new duties. Over the coming weeks Cst. Martin will be dropping in to begin meeting with business owners and community members and stakeholders to discuss how to best offer policing support in her new role.
