social mediaOn Monday April 29, 2019, the Owen Sound Police Service was contacted by a citizen who reported that their address had been posted online as a location where Maltese puppies were being offered for sale. The citizen had been contacted by a potential customer who was interested in purchasing a puppy, however the address and contact information supplied was being used in a social networking scam. There were no puppies for sale at that residence.

It has been determined that an unknown person(s) was operating under a fake name and had posted that they had Maltese puppies for sale at that vacant residence. The ad was a scam and has since been removed.

To avoid being scammed, we remind citizens to always do their research on any product that is offered for sale either online or through any social networking site.

We have a clearly signed and video recorded ‘Safe Exchange Zone’ at the police station that is open to the public 24 hours per day 7 days a week, should you wish to meet a potential buyer or purchaser. The Safe Exchange Zone is located at 922 2nd Avenue West, adjacent to the main entrance.

The Owen Sound Police continue to investigate this scam and if you have any information contact the Owen Sound Police Service at 519-376-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or securely at www.cstip.ca.
