When it closed in 2015 Legate Furniture at 2nd Avenue East and 8th Streets tood on the site of one of the first buildings in Owen Sound. According to Grey Roots, "The store building was built in 1906 by William Legate. It originally housed a Farmer's Bank, a feed and flower (flour?) store, and a grocery store.

The 160th Emancipation Festival celebration will take place from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31 in Owen Sound, the most northern terminus of the Underground Railroad and the longest continuous running emancipation picnic in North America. Several historical items from the Victoria Jubilee Hall will be on display this summer at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre.
Visitors to the museum will see original tools from 1897 used to construct the hall, a miniature version of the hall and several other important historical items. The exhibit runs the entire month of August.
