Call it the Greg Ireland junior hockey paradox.

If you put winning first you won't win, the head coach of the Owen Sound Attack told me on the eve of the 2014-2015 schedule.

The Ontario Hockey League team's season begins Wednesday at the Harry Lumley arena at 7 p.m. when they play against the Kitchener Rangers.

Before winning, the young men on the team have to be successful with parallel processes, said Ireland. "In our personal conduct off the ice, we do the right thing every day."

attackblack-regThe Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that Owen Sound and NHL Alumnus Kevin Weekes will be at Wednesday's Bruce Telecom Home Opener to help kick off the 2014/2015 Season and also help launch the Attack's new No5Hole apparel line. Weekes suited up for the Attack from 1992-1994 before going on to appear in 348 regular season games over parts of eleven seasons in the National Hockey League. Following his playing career, Weekes, 39 now provides color commentary for NHL games on the NHL Network and Hockey Night in Canada. In The Hockey News 2011 edition of the 100 Most Powerful people in ice hockey, Weekes was considered one of the Top 40 under the age of 40.

Varney, ON – This past Friday night marked the first "night of champions" in Full Throttle Motor Speedway history as points champions where crowned in each class. Also in the Pro Late Model class the Sgt. J Johannessen memorial trophy donated by Royal Engraving & Trophies was on the line for the best overall finisher for the night.

In Pro Late Model action #11 Cole Weber from New Hamburg started the night with a slim four point advantage over #1 Kent Nuhn from Desboro. In feature one Weber would start from the fourth position while Nuhn drew the number seven starting position.

VARNEY, ON - It was a night that short-track racing legend "The Ironman" #36 Gary Elliott from Waterdown, won't soon forget, nor will he want to. Elliot was able to capture his first feature checker flag in a car he owns since 2008 and he did so beating Open Wheel Modified racing champion #8 Gary McLean of Conn, on a track he has ruled over the last number of years.
