shorthandedThe OSLT is pleased to welcome The Owen Sound Major Junior Attack players and their organization on January 31st to the Opening Night of the Owen Sound Little Theatre's production of Shorthanded.

When the second production in this year’s season of comedy begins, we soon learn it’s Game 7 of the Old Timers’ hockey league final! With a glimpse into their dressing room, the audience gets a glimpse at the lives of a “gaggle of guys” who are still haunted by a legendary Game 7 loss as Junior B players in their hometown. Shorthanded was written by Michael Grant and takes place in 2012 when it won The Best New Comedy Award from The Playwright Guild of Canada.

Veteran Director Shirley Holmes sees it as a light hearted look at dressing room banter. "These are good men who care about their friends, loyalty and community."

The set was designed by Paul Welsh, an actor in the show, and he and his volunteer crew have constructed and recreated a hockey dressing room. The set painters Helen Harrison, Joanne Dowdall and Lynn Sparkhall have created such a realistic image that it looks as if a dressing room from some local arena was transported and now sits on the Roxy stage.

The cast features Ben Davidson, Dan Herrick, Paul Welsh, Rick Twining, Jason Dedrick, Mike Tettenborn, Martin Cooper and Jamie Smith. A crew of 30 volunteers, led by Cathie Locke and Lisa Miller have worked many hours to make this play a success.

If you like hockey or if you like theatre you will have a great time at SHORTHANDED. Opening night is January 31st and running February 1, 2, and February 6 to the 9th. At the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound. Tickets at the Roxy Box office (519)371-2833 or at www.roxytheatre.ca
