bridge 1- by David Strutt

The next time photo chapter of the 10th St. bridge project.

The second time photo chapter of the "Big Pour" during the afternoon until the pour was completed at 6:30 pm.bridge 2

The afternoon scene changed as the pour was in the second phase of being completed. There were large canvas type coverings being placed over the finished concrete surface of the pour. This would protect the cement surface from weather, as well as letting the cement cure and dry slowly. The bridge crew would later use large water hoses to keep the covered surface wet to cure properly.

The large yellow frame system was moving slowly across the width of the bridge as the pour carried on across the bridge form.

There was now only one large mobile cement truck pumper with it's crane arm pumping cement into the rebar encased form below.

The cement trucks were lined up in turn to keep a steady pour of concrete into the hopper of the pumping station.

The four wheel steering on these giant cement trucks was amazing to watch. They provide the aid in backing into tight spaces as well as the extremely heavy cement loads these trucks carry. A few of the photos give you a close up view of the size of these cement trucks.

bridge 3I received some interesting facts of information on the "Big Pour" at the bridge.

There was 300 cubic meters of cement poured in to the giant bridge form that held almost 5 kilometers of rebar forms within the main bridge form.

During the 12 hour cement pour time, these massive cement trucks provided approximately 35 truck loads of cement to the site to complete the "Big Pour" on both sides of the bridge.bridge 4

The last three photos are also now part of history; a photo time lapse of the "Big Pour" that day.

A photo credit* goes to Allan Mustard, who shared these photos with me in my last post, amazing photos from the back of the big red Arbro mobile cement truck pumper. Thank you Allan.

* Allen was one of the drivers, delivering cement in these giant four wheel steering cement trucks.

A day of pure enjoyment for me; to be able to photograph this amazing event, one eventful stage, a part of history in the construction of the new 10th St bridge.

Another photo chapter of the 10th St. bridge ends.

The photos are for everyone who enjoy the photo moments of this bridge construction event, sharing with you, also with historians, and with my friends.
