Two weeks ago a private mortgage was foreclosed on a property located at 720 2nd Avenue East, the location of the former Victorious Living Centre. On Thursday, May 31st, acting on complaints, the City of Owen Sound issued a Compliance Letter and Notice to Remove Items under the Preservation of Order on Streets By-law due to the occupation and obstruction of the public sidewalk. By order of the By-law, the items were to be removed by Thursday, June 7, 2018.

Earlier today, City By-law staff, working with Owen Sound Police Services enforced the Compliance Order issued under the By-law. Upon arrival of By-law staff and Owen Sound Police Services, there was voluntary compliance and the individuals who had occupied the sidewalk removed their items. The City would like to thank these individuals for their cooperation.

Emergency and long-term shelter is arranged through a partnership with the YMCA under contract with the County of Grey. Support staff have been in regular contact with the individuals impacted throughout the last two weeks, connecting them with resources and temporary housing.

The County of Grey and its partners will continue their effort to ensure resources and support is in place for these individuals.
