The Earth Day Grey Bruce planning group wants to send a huge thank you to our communities, for supporting and participating in this very exciting and engaging event on April 23, at the Owen Sound Farmers Market.

The main goal was to bring together as many people and groups as possible to celebrate our planet while addressing the need for climate action and justice. And we acknowledge that we live on the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation and welcomed the collaboration with Indigenous people and organizations in the event.

Thanks to the many sponsors, donors, volunteers, presenters, performers, media outlets and individuals who worked hard and made this event possible. And thanks for spreading the word in so many ways that large numbers of people came to get informed, have fun and get connected.

It became apparent that the great strength of our region is that we like to do things together, meet each other and find solutions to problems. And the renovated Farmers Market with its adjunct precinct provides an ideal space for such events. Climate change, climate emergency was strongly on people’s minds as they gathered and looked for information on what we can do to reduce our carbon footprint. Music, art and stories are important aspects of a caring and forward looking community, and they definitely played crucial parts in creating this level of energy and fun.

We are looking forward to planning another Earth Day in 2023 and making this into an annual event.
