 JaynePritchard talks

Jayne Pritchard related her personal journey this week as Grey Highlands Public Library hosted an Author Talks event Thursday in Flesherton in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Known for her work as news anchor for CTV News Barrie, Pritchard shared her recent book Breast Cancer – After the Diagnosis and how she overcame setbacks along the way. She captivated the audience with the stories of her diagnosis, many surgeries, alternative and naturopathic treatments as well as nutrition methods she uses to maintain good health. Her touching story had the crowd in tears and laughter.

“Jayne’s story hit home for a lot of people and her advocacy work is critical," said Jennifer Murley, Grey Highlands Public Library CEO.

"About 29,000 people in Canada were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and as educators, we can play an important role in providing information to the community about prioritizing breast health and health in general. The Library was so excited to support this initiative and to bring a familiar face to Grey Highlands to start this work,” Murley added.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, an annual international health campaign to raise awareness about early detection and the impact of breast cancer. While there have been many advances and remarkable progress against breast cancer, one in eight women in Canada are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Males are also at risk and should check their breast health regularly; nearly one percent of all breast cancers occur in men.

GreyHighlandsPublicLibrary logoTickets for the event were by donation with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Canada. Over $400 was raised which reflects the community support in Grey Highlands. Copies of Jayne’s book are available through your local branch.
