Scottish men curlers are coming to Blue Water Curling Club on Saturday, Jan. 14, for a set of friendly curling matches that are part of the Canada-Scotland Strathcona Cup bonspiel.

After morning contests at the Mount Forest Curling Club, the Scottish teams will arrive in Owen Sound and be piped onto the ice for four games against Blue Water curlers at 3:00 p.m.

Dinner at the Club follows, generously sponsored by Bill Graham, owner of our local Foodland. Wine from Coffin Ridge and beer from Hurry Hard will keep the curlers lubricated.

Outstanding musicians Larry Jensen and Tim Harrison will provide entertainment during and after dinner. Mayor Ian Boddy has agreed to formally welcome the Scots and kick off the Owen Sound games.

The Strathcona Cup, with a storied history over 110 years, features local curlers across Canada and Scotland in friendly matches, with the winner of the bonspiel determined by aggregate scores. This year, more than 1,700 Canadians will participate in 437 games in 105 different Clubs across Canada from January 10 to 31.

In short, we’re proud to be part of what is truly a big deal!  Spectators are warmly welcome.
