Community Foundation Grey Bruce is pleased to announce a bequest  from the estate of Charles Macdonald that will benefit the Meaford Community Fund.

Charles Campbell (Charlie) Macdonald passed away peacefully at his  home in Meaford on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the age of ninety one. Born in Chatsworth on April 13, 1931, he was a son of the late  Gordon and Grace Macdonald. Charlie arrived in Meaford in 1953  when he and his brothe John started their business together in the  Crest Hardware building. In 1979, they opened Macdonald’s Furniture  and Appliances where they worked hard together side by side for many years and their legacy lives on more than 69 years later.

Established in 2012, the Meaford Community Fund, administered by Community Foundation  Grey Bruce, offers a unique way for the citizens of the Municipality of Meaford to give  charitable donations that keep working in Meaford, creating a legacy for generations to come.  Grants generated from the Fund’s investment support the work of charities and non-profits,  ensuring Meaford continues to be a vibrant and caring community.

In support of the Meaford Community Fund, Charlie designated a portion of his will to the fund. Charlie liked the idea of his donation remaining in Meaford and  felt that it would be a wonderful legacy for his community. Mr. MacDonald’s obituary noted  that “He truly loved Meaford and participating in the community in any way that he could.”

If you are interested in contributing to the Meaford Community Fund or making a legacy gift in  your will please give the Foundation office a call at 519 371 7203.

Created in 1994, Community Foundation Grey Bruce has a mandate to enhance community  vitality by fostering open discussion about local need, sharing knowledge, and growing  endowments to provide strategic granting and support to a wide range of non-profit  organizations.
