The Owen Sound Police Service and the Owen Sound Fire Department attended a fire in the downtown core where black smoke was observed billowing from a second story window.

At approximately 11:50 a.m. crews arrived on scene and evacuated the building, which was located in the 200 block of 8th Street East. The fire, which was contained to a single unit, was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

The buidling did sustain some damage, with the involved unit remaining uninhabitable for the tenants. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however it is believed to have started from a small space heater.

The Owen Sound Police Service would like to remind the public not to leave any electric device or appliance plugged in when they leave their home for any extended period.
