At their meeting on January 19, 2022 the Meaford Library Board approved the appointment of Rob Armstrong as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Meaford Public Library (MPL).

A recent vacancy in the CEO position created an opportunity for the Library Board to look at the organizational structure of MPL in an innovative way that would offer the same great service without additional costs for service delivery. “The Library Board positively views this as a strategic move that will allow the enhancement of services at the Library and to strengthen the alliance with the Municipality,” said Mike Poetker, Chair of the Meaford Public Library Board.

Through agreement by both the Library Board and Council it was approved that Rob Armstrong, who is currently the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Municipality, would also be appointed as CEO of the Library. This will be a dual role for Rob. A condition of the approval is an agreement between the Board and the Municipality that clearly distinguishes the role of CEO from the CAO and the reporting to the Library Board to comply with the Libraries Act.

“I believe that this new arrangement will benefit the Municipality as a whole. This would not be possible without the great staff who work at the Library and the exceptional services that they provide that makes our library one of the cornerstones contributing to the strong cultural presence in our community,” said Rob Armstrong.

The Municipality’s senior management is committed to finding innovative ways to deliver services and this new dual role for the CAO is an example of how Council and staff are leading in Municipal government to provide effective governance and responsible decision making that works to the benefit of all residents in the municipality.

We invite you to come visit the Meaford Public Library online on their website, and in person at 11 Sykes Street North. Come and enjoy all of the wonderful community services, connections and events it has to offer.
