UW Backpack Program

The United Way Bruce Grey is excited to announce that we are entering the 19th year of The Backpack Program, aimed at providing essential school supplies to students in need. We are urging community members who require assistance from this program to register now by calling 211.

Through the years, The Backpack Program has proven to be an invaluable resource for families struggling to provide their children with the necessary school supplies. We Call 211believe that no child should be hindered in their education due to a lack of resources. As such, we are encouraging all eligible families to take advantage of this program by registering at the earliest opportunity.

We have heard that when students are given a fully stocked backpack, they have what they need to succeed for the school year. Their mental health improves knowing that they will not be without and chances of facing unfortunate bullying situations lowers. We’re proud of this program because we know how difficult it is out there with the costs of living continuously rising.

In the last 19 years, The Backpack Program has distributed an impressive total of 32,808 fully stocked backpacks to students in need. This vital support has resulted in parents and guardians saving an astonishing $2,251,335 in school supply expenses. However, it is important to note that the cost of supplies and backpacks has increased by 34.81% over the past five years. To ensure the continued success of The Backpack Program, our fundraising goal for this year
is set at $80,000.
