Everyone is invited to a free family event on Wednesday, April 19, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound (1900 3rd Avenue East). Hosted by the Owen Sound Community Fund and the City of Owen Sound through the Canada 150 / Owen Sound 160 Celebration Committee, the event will honour the achievements of Olympians, Larisa Yurkiw and Jason Crone, and will discuss the importance of sport in creating a sense of community belonging.

Yurkiw, as one of the world's top downhill ski racers, competed in the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and the World Ski Racing Championships between 2009 and 2016, towards a career peak with five podium placements before retiring in 2016. Jason Crone overcame all obstacles to win bronze at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and silver at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and also competed at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games.

These two inspiring athletes will be available to sign autographs and will have a conversation with MC Fred Wallace of Bayshore Broadcasting about the importance of community support in professional sport. Join us for family fun and community connections - refreshments will be provided.

Created in 2009 with proceeds from Owen Sound's 150th Anniversary Homecoming, the Owen Sound Community Fund invests donations within the Community Foundation Grey Bruce, and supports projects in the local community with the proceeds. For more information on the Owen Sound Community Fund.
