On September 6, 2017 at approximately 11:26 a.m., Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police investigated an assault which allegedly occurred on September 5th on George Street in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

As a result of the investigation, Bruce Peninsula OPP arrested 67-year old Craig Gammie of South Bruce Peninsula. He was charged with Assault and Breach of Trust by a Public Officer. The accused was held for a bail hearing scheduled for September 8, 2017.

The victim, a 55-year old male from South Bruce Peninsula, suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault.

According to a report in the Wiarton Echo, the victim was SBP Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland.
