ABRAFLEX 2004 Ltd has purchased a 12,000 square foot manufacturing facility on 44 acres of land in the community of Paisley, located in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, to support Bruce Power and Ontario's nuclear industry.
ABRAFLEX has recently become a manufacturer for Bruce Power to produce Mark IIIB plastic suits for use in radiation protection. The plastic suits are used for personnel safety for work completed during outages in all units in both Bruce A and Bruce B.
"We are thrilled to have formed a partnership with ABRAFLEX, a Certified Aboriginal Business, that is able to supply Bruce Power with products and services locally," said Richard Horrobin, Bruce Power's Vice President, Supply Chain. "We look forward to advancing this relationship over the coming years."
From its Paisley facility, ABRAFLEX is also able to provide all major brands of joint sheeting and mechanical packings used to make gaskets or cut-to- size and shape products. The company also specializes in sourcing hard-to- find or obsolete products and parts. With the ability to reverse-engineer obsolete products in its manufacturing plant, ABRAFLEX provides products dimensionally identical and manufactured to the specification.
"We are happy to be a part of the Paisley community and supporting local economic growth and local job creation," said John Bradley, President and CEO of ABS Group of Companies. "Paisley was an ideal location, given the availability of labour supply, affordable housing, and proximity to the Bruce Power site. The 12,000 square foot facility on 44 acres of land provides ABRAFLEX with the flexibility to grow our manufacturing, warehousing, and storage and repair areas as we expand our relationship with Bruce Power and the surrounding communities."
ABRAFLEX has 21 full-time employees and 12 additional workers trained and available for part-time employment. The part-time resources and availability of labour supply in the community will enable ABRAFLEX to increase production quickly as customer requirements increase and additional contracts are secured.
In the current facility, ABRAFLEX can employ up to 200 people. "ABRAFLEX's commitment in Arran-Elderslie is a significant investment in our local economy," said Mitch Twolan, Warden of the County of Bruce. "Creating new employment opportunities for our residents, diversifying our economic base, and establishing an anchor operation in a small town is important for the growth and sustainability of our communities."
