Community-foundation-GB-fullCommunity Foundation Grey Bruce hosted a celebration of community philanthropy on October 26th 2017 at Stone Tree Golf & Fitness in Owen Sound. The Foundation distributed over $175,000 to thirty-seven charities and not-for-profits from across the region. Representatives from a variety of organizations were present to pick up their cheques and to share their stories. All recipients expressed gratitude to the organizations, individuals and families that have generously invested in the future of Grey and Bruce by endowing funds and legacy gifts with the Foundation.

There was a wide scope of meaningful community projects receiving support. Some examples include: We C.A.R.E. Mental Health Symposium for youth and adults, a school and community nutrition project by Canadian Feed the Children based at Chippewas of Nawash, and a purchase of a Zoll AED automated external defibrillator for the Derby Pioneers Seniors Club. Teeswater Agricultural Society, Elsinore Community Centre, Cargill Community Centre, Purple Grove Community Centre and Massie Community Centre were all projects that received capital funding to ensure these community hubs can continue to provide much needed services to residents in their respective areas. This diversity reflects the breadth of community activities in arts, culture, sports, education, environment and wellness that make Grey Bruce a vibrant place to live.

Chair of the Foundation Board, Maureen Solecki, said "Since its inception in 1994, Community Foundation Grey Bruce has distributed a total of $3.2 million in grants to local charities. Grants, scholarships and bursaries totaling $644,000 will be disbursed by the end of 2017. Our work is making for positive change in Grey Bruce. We're here for good!"

Created in 1994, Community Foundation Grey Bruce has a mandate to strengthen Grey and Bruce communities through endowment building, grant making, and community partnerships. The next general grants deadline for projects and programs is April 15th, 2018.
