sex-violence-fullViolence Prevention Grey Bruce is holding a Round Table on sexual violence prevention on Wednesday November 12, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Grey Bruce Health Unit.

"We are inviting people from all walks of life to talk about preventing sexual violence in our community because this is such a taboo, and often difficult to grapple" said Bernice Connell, a member of the organizing committee and the manager of sexual assault services in Grey Bruce. "Into the Open is an invitation that will bring people and ideas together. We hope it will help us learn together about the things that make it hard to tackle sexual violence, and the things we can do together to make change."

John Swales, a survivor of sexual violence and an advocate for better services for men and boys, and May Britt Tettero, a counsellor and advocate will speak at the round table. There will be an opportunities for large and small group discussion and action plans for the community.

"Over the past few weeks both domestic violence and sexual violence have been in the media' Connell said. "Into the Open was planned long before all of that, but it is timely because many people are thinking about what we can do to prevent violence in the first place."

Registration for Into the Open is limited to 40 people, so if members of the public are interested in attending, they can contact Bernice Connell at 519 372-1113 extension 224. Or [email protected].
