On Sunday September 29th, 2019 just before 9:00am Owen Sound Fire Services along with Owen Sound Police, Paramedics and Inter-township Fire responded to a fire at an apartment building on the westside of the city.

Upon arrival Firefighters found a 3rd floor apartment to be fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to this unit and quickly extinguished it.

The male occupant of the apartment was able to escape without injuries. The male was transported by Paramedics to hospital for precautionary reasons, but was later discharged. Paramedics also transported two other elderly tenants from the building to hospital for precautionary reasons. They were later discharged.

The damage estimate is not yet known. Other apartment units near the fire received smoke and water damage.
Officials from Grey County Housing quickly attended the building to assist with clean up and to assist with displaced tenants.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No foul play is suspected.
