Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Larry Miller has been called out for re-tweeting an unattributed post with the headline "Canadian Muslim Demands Pedophilia Be Legal". Although he has taken it down and apologized for sharing "incorrect information" without verifying the source, the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) want to know why Mr. Miller would ever have used his official social media account in this way.

"It is outrageous, offensive and completely unacceptable for an elected official to promote such a blatantly misinformed article about Canadian Muslims. Such actions only serve to spread unfounded fear and hatred within our communities. Canadians expect much better of our elected leaders and we would urge MP Larry Miller to clarify why he would retweet this, and apologize" said Leila Nasr, Communications Coordinator of NCCM.

Asked for a response, Mr. Miller's office sent the following statement.

"Several days ago a tweet with incorrect information was shared on my account. Within hours it was removed. I apologize to anyone this may have offended. It is important for everyone, including me, to ensure that items that they post on the internet is true and based on fact. I regret the mistake and will work to ensure that it does not happen in the future."

When we pointed out that this was not the first time the Owen Sound Hub had inquired about questionable posts and likes on Mr. Miller's Twitter account, including a gun-control cartoon shortly after the Parkland shooting and a "joke" about punching a trans woman in the face from an account called "Men's Room" last February, we were told they have now "taken steps to avoid these types of inappropriate shares."

This week's share was first made public by PressProgress, a media project launched by the Broadbent Institute in 2013.
