On November 22, 2019 at 10:52 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a medical distress at Cameron Drive, Saugeen First Nation.

Grey Bruce OPP and Saugeen First Nation Fire Department attended the scene ahead of Bruce County Paramedics and observed an unconscious person in the residence. There was evidence to suggest the person suffered a drug overdose. OPP officers administered Naloxone and the person became conscious. They were transported to hospital by ambulance.

Most overdose incidents occur inside a residence, making it difficult for police and emergency services personnel to provide the necessary assistance unless they are called. The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act (GSDOA) provides some legal protection for individuals who seek emergency help during an overdose.

If you know someone who struggles with drug use, you are urged to know how you can help in the event of an overdose.
