 Owen Sound Girls Field Lacrosse Weekly Report

The Owen Sound U19 Creative Playgrounds women’s field lacrosse team faced the Kitchener Kodiaks in JEWL division play on Thursday night in Acton.

At halftime the North Stars led by a score of 6-4 and managed to extend their lead to beat the Kodiaks by a final score of 12-8. The win improved Owen Sound's record to 7-2 on the season.

Gillian Warren had a solid performance between the pipes making key saves in the final quarter.

Brooklyn Doyle set up several goals and was selected as the team's offensive player of the game while Kaitlyn Strong had an outstanding defensive performance earning defensive player of the game.

Scoring for Owen Sound was Jill Goldie with 6 goals, Karly Low netted a pair while Courtney Scott, Cassidy Low, Eden Beyer, and Laine Nissen each netted one.

The team travels to the Hill Academy Friday night to finish regular season play against the Oakville Lady Hawks at 7:00 p.m.

After a break last weekend the Owen Sound U19 Krueger Steel girls’ field lacrosse team were back at it in Kawartha on Saturday.

Their first game was against Toronto Beaches; Owen Sound North Stars played as a team and came out with a 14-5 win.

Goals scored by Ryan Seaman (5), Aliviah McCall (2), Mya Good (2), Camryn Stauffer (2), Grace Smyth (1), Megan Cowan (1), and Ella McCoubrey (1).

The second game was against Oshawa. North Stars played hard, but lost 11-0.

The U19 squad is back in action next Saturday when they travel to Orillia for their last regular season games.

The Owen Sound U15A Fire Fighters North Stars split a pair of games in Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse play in Peterborough on Saturday. 

In their first game the North Stars lost to the top-ranked Oshawa Lady Blue Knights by a score of 13-5.

London Doyle scored two goals for Owen Sound while Taryn Weppler, Leah Cooper, and Adalyn Jackson scored one goal each. 

The North Stars beat the fifth-ranked Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks 7-5 in their second game of the day.

Leah Cooper and Sarah Barfoot scored two goals each for the U15A squad while Camryn Laycock, Mya Good and London Doyle scored singles. 

Next action for the U15A squad will be Saturday when the North Stars will travel to Orillia to play the second-ranked Halton Hills Bulldogs and the third-ranked Toronto Beaches.

U15B 01 10Jul23

The Owen Sound U15B John Shute Optometry North Stars played two games of field lacrosse in Peterborough this weekend.

They won the first game against Mimico with a score of 14-6.

The U15Bs maintained a steady force with goalie Annabelle Evans making many saves to help keep the strong lead.

Team goals were scored by Noelle Brewster (2), Addi McCoubrey (2), Leah Sundermeier (2), Jenna Cranny (3), Caitlin Tran (2), Ally Scott (1), Avery Thompson (1) and Megan Nissen (1).

Defensively, Paityn McKenzie and Emily Rourke gave a coordinated effort.

The U15B’s second game was a 14-6 loss against Newmarket.

Goals were scored by Noelle Brewster (3), Charlotte Fox (1), Ally Scott (1) and Lauren Neil (1).

Despite a strong effort on defence by Lauren Neil, the U15Bs weren’t able to match Newmarket’s goal scorers.  

The team plays again next Saturday in Orillia.

The Owen Sound U13 Legacy Ridge Golf Club team headed to Peterborough on Sunday to play two games.

Their first matchup saw Orangeville. Our defence and goaltending by Kyla Johnson was strong which gave them a 14-3 win.

Goals scored by Scarlett Stevenson (4), Avery Thompson (3), Hailey Frede (3). Singles from Olyvia Wagner, Harper Lines, Reese Holman and Callie Sarvis.

Heading into their game against Orillia our defensive players Callie Sarvis, Vanessa Patterson, Harlow Stevenson, and Scarlett Stevenson continued to be strong.

The girls pressured the ball in the three zones not allowing as many turnovers and scoring chances. They fought hard but fell 7-5.

Goals scored by Avery Thompson (2), Scarlett Stevenson (2) and Ella Todd. We head into our last regular season game play in Orillia next weekend.

A great showing by the Owen Sound U11A Ron Hopper Real Estate girls field lacrosse team in Kawartha this weekend.

The girls won their first game against Burlington 11-9.

Goals for Owen Sound by Adele Ferguson (5), Lyla Doyle (3), Tessa Matheson (1), Atayvia Jackson (1) and Mila Minard (1).

Our second game put us up against the top ranked team and our girls played extremely well.

They led for the majority of the game and in the end fell a little short with a 17-11 loss to Oshawa.

An incredible team effort and big saves in net by Isla Nickel.

Goals by Mila (2), Keeva Fox (2), Sophie Burnett-Scott (2), Lyla Doyle (2), and singles by Molly Richardson, Adele Ferguson and Tessa Matheson.

The girls are in Orillia next weekend for our last regular season games before provincials.

Way to go girls!

The Owen Sound U9 Berner Contracting girls played two games in Toronto this Sunday.

Despite the heat, the girls fought hard, but lost against Toronto Beaches with a score of 16-9.

Goals came in from Faye Burnett-Scott (3), Clara Patterson (3), Evelyn Scholl (1), Jackie Seaman (1) and Shantae (Tae) Wilson (1).

In game two, the girls pushed on but lost against Orangeville 15-7 with goals from Evelyn Scholl (2), Tae Wilson (1), Olivia Barfoot (1), Clara Patterson (1), Meyer Quaid (1), and Agnes Stephen (1).

The girls are in action again on July 23 in Orillia.
