Hanover PoliceA woman has been sentenced for trafficking Fentanyl.

Saundra MacNeil pled guilty to several charges including Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Failure to Comply with a Recognizance x2 and Uttering a Forged Document. Saundra MacNeil received a two-year concurrent jail sentence.

Saundra MacNeil is also charged with similar offences in other jurisdictions that remain before the courts.

The Hanover Police Service charges originally stemmed from a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation initiated on December 20th, 2017. Saundra MacNeil of Toronto, had been accused of entering a pharmacy in the Town of Hanover with a forged Transdermal Fentanyl Patch prescription. Saundra MacNeil was able to fraudulently obtain a large quantity of Fentanyl before leaving the pharmacy. This Fentanyl was never recovered.fentanyl patches

The Hanover Police Service wants to remind citizens that given the current state of Opioid overdoses and deaths, offences such as these are treated seriously. Hanover Police Service is pleased the suspect received a prison sentence. Fentanyl is a powerful narcotic and even a small amount can cause injury or death.

On Wednesday, December 20, 2017, the Hanover Police Service receive a call to attend a pharmacy in the Town of Hanover regarding a forged Fentanyl prescription.

Police learned that on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 6:30 pm a female had called the pharmacy the pharmacy advising their Doctor had mixed up the street name on their Narcotic prescription. The female advised the prescription was supposed to be sent to a pharmacy located at Hanover Street in Toronto, Ontario. The female advised the pharmacy in Hanover she was willing to drive from Toronto to fill the prescription anyhow. The female had a detailed cover story, which involved her relocating form the United States and suffering from a medical issue that had been discovered. The suspect appeared to have a newborn with her when filling the prescription.

The female arrived at the pharmacy and surrendered a prescription on official looking letterhead for a significant quantity of Transdermal Fentanyl Patches. The female also surrendered a fraudulent temporary Ontario Driver’s Licence.
