On average, Owen Sound receives about 300 centimetres (10 feet) of snow each winter. A major snowfall event can produce an accumulation of 30 to 60 centimetres (12 to 24 inches) of snow.
The primary goal of winter operations is to provide a safe and passable roadway for motorists, and

emergency response vehicles, with due regard for the prevailing conditions.

The City of Owen Sound utilizes the following equipment to maintain 280 (lane) kilometres of roadway, 100

volunteerThe City of Owen Sound is seeking nominations from community groups, and organizations for individuals who have made a significant volunteer contribution and are worthy of recognition.

The Community Services Committee will review the Volunteer of the Year and Senior of the Year nominations and recommend to Council candidates in our community who have contributed significantly to the quality of life of Owen Sound. The successful candidate(s) will be recognized at a City Council meeting in the Spring. Nomination criteria and application forms are available as at City Hall or may be found online

Deadline for submission is Friday, March 4, 2016.

nolanThe City presented the seventh annual Owen Sound Cultural Awards today at a ceremony held at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Eight awards were handed out to recipients ranging in age from 17 to 83. Near the end of the ceremony, the audience stood and cheered as music and broadcasting legend Alfie Fromager received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The youngest recipient was musician and band leader Nolan Murphy, who received the Emerging Artist Award, the only award that includes a $500 cash prize. Nolan is deputy bandmaster and assistant conductor
