Some students may be travelling abroad this summer, and some may let the world – or at least China – come to them.
There are still a few spots available in May Ip's Chinese heritage and language summer program, open to any student from age 7 to 14.
Chinese games, brush painting, adding with an abacus and paper-folding are all part of the program that will run from 9:30 to 11, Monday to Friday from July 4 to August 5 in the (air-conditioned) OSCVI.

"Make hay while the sun shines." As good a piece of advice as "strike while the iron is hot," but also just as out of context for most of us. And it is not quite that simple. A farmer doesn't just head out to the field as soon as the sun shines.
First step: check the equipement. Apply grease. Examine U-joints, chains and belts. This year, when I attempted to tighten the chains on the haybine, they wouldn't. They'd been stretched beyond useful and needed to be replaced. By the time I had them off, my hands and arms were black with oil and grease. The machine did purr when I got the new ones on.

The rainbow flag is flying again in Owen Sound. This morning at 10 a.m. the Pride flag was raised at the Owen Sound Police Services building on 2nd Ave. W.

I doubt this comes as a surprise to anyone, but I propose that the name of the new combined public high school in Owen Sound be Owen Sound Collegiate. If implemented correctly, this name provides the best opportunity to honour the history of our two schools, their alumni and communities and Owen Sound itself while at the same time beginning the healing process for our community.
