I grew up poor in a single-parent home with my mother and a younger brother. That probably explains why I’m so frustrated and angry about poverty, and asking voters to make this issue a priority, along with climate change, as you vote on June 2.
Let me tell you what “poor” meant to me as I grew up in Niagara Falls in the 50s - which, shockingly, is not much different from what tens of thousands of children experience in 2022.

The fire at the Hanover Forum, as well as neighbouring businesses and apartments. It’s been difficult to view social media and read some of the negative posts, comments or opinions about the residents of the building. Thankfully, for the most part it feels as though there has been a lot of compassion shown towards their situation.
The Ontario Fire Marshal has concluded their on-site investigation at the Downtown Hanover Fire and the Hanover Fire Department has cleared the scene.
A search of the occupied areas of the fire-gutted buildings has found no human remains and no persons were reported missing. A number of pets including dogs and cats are confirmed to have died. ...

Doug Ford and Justin Trudeau recently committed $1.6 billion to auto-makers to build electric vehicles in Ontario. (All we need now are the rebates for folks to buy them, as other provinces are doing with success.) Maybe Ontario’s Conservatives are Progressive after all.
There are plenty of jobs in a green economy if Ontario would only put its shoulder to the wheel. It’s going to take more than bucks to business ...

Once upon a time we lived in a big house on Hamilton “Mountain” overlooking Lake Ontario. We owned the house because my parents mortgaged their paid-off home in Toronto, gave us cash to buy our Hamilton house, and we paid their mortgage. We were down-the-line recipients of my mother's inheritance and my father's veteran's benefits.
