On Monday night, an important anti-racism motion was raised at Owen Sound City Council. Watching alone in the "media room" at city hall, on delay via Rogers television, I could not see all the faces but I could feel the emotion in the council chamber.
I have transcribed what was said, verbatim, by the three councillors who spoke to the motion,
Owen Sound City Council passed the anti-racism motion below 8-1 in a recorded vote. Councillor Merton introduced the motion with the following words:
I bring this motion to the table to acknowledge that we live in a world where racism and oppression . . .
