One of Quebec's most respected fiddlers and singers will be in Owen Sound with the trad-folk trio Mil on November 7.
Claude Méthé, with guitarist Dana Whittle and flute and whistle player Denise Levac, will co-host an all-instruments Quebec dance repertoire workshop for area musicians that afternoon at The Harmony Centre, then play for the regular Fiddlefern Country Dancers contra dance that evening at nearby St. George's church hall, with dance callers Frank Francalanza and Lorraine Sutton.
Méthé, also a singer and prolific composer, is among the most influential Quebec fiddlers of his generation. His career began in the 1970s and 80s with Le Rêve du Diable, a group he co-founded and for which he received honours from the Québec National Assembly in 2012. Arguably Quebec's first commercially successful trad band, Le Rêve du Diable was indirectly responsible for spawning and influencing many more to come.
Méthé's solo album L'Amant confesseur was nominated for trad Canadian folk album of the year. Guitarist, singer and songwriter Dana Whittle, originally from

October 19th might have changed Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound's definition of feeling the blues. While the Blue Jays ran 11 players home to beat the Royals, the local Conservatives delivered over 25,600 voters to the polls. Larry Miller won a fifth mandate as our member of parliament, beating his nearest rival – Kimberley Love of the Liberal Party – by more than 2,400 votes.

In early September, Larry Miller reported to the media that every one of his election signs had been removed from the village of Shallow Lake, a traditional sea of Conservative blue. The press release warned that the loss had been reported to the police and the offence of "moving, removing or vandalizing" election signs carried a fine of up to $5000 or two years in prison, as well as the risk of further trespassing charges. A week later, Miller reported that the OPP had been alerted to a similar crime in Desboro.
And that was only the start.
Although there were no media releases, nor official police complaints from candidates, Mr. Miller's opponents have seen destruction, defacement and removal of their signs throughout this campaign. Besides the excrement and creative writing, some of the attacks on signs have been disconcertingly aggressive. One strong supporter of ...
Dear Editor,
I am a family physician. I care greatly about the health and wellness of Canadians. I recognize the incredible teams of professionals and volunteers who deliver healthcare in our communities.
It is important to remember that the federal government has responsibilities for Healthcare.
Drug costs are higher in Canada than they need to be. Despite recent research showing that a national Pharmacare strategy could be a win-win situation for all Canadians and industry, the Harper Conservatives are not advocating for this drug plan for all Canadians. We need a government that recognizes the strain of prescription drug costs for everyday Canadians. The federal government needs to show leadership in healthcare. This has been clearly stated by health policy experts, including in a recent editorial by Dr. M. Stanbrook in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ). The Harper Conservatives allowed ...
