tetanus-featAn unimmunized child from Grey Bruce has been diagnosed with tetanus. This is the first recorded case of tetanus in Grey Bruce. The child has been hospitalized, in critical condition.

Tetanus vaccine is routinely administered in combination with vaccines against diphtheria, pertussis, polio, and Haemophilus influenza type b to children at 2, 4, 6, and 18 months of age. Completion of the primary series provides more than 99% protection. Booster doses of tetanus vaccines are given at 4 to 6 years of age and 14 to 16 years of age. A booster dose is recommended for adults every ten years for continued protection.

gogdrawing-regThe Grey Bruce Health Unit is seeking assistance from the public in finding the owners of two dogs involved in two separate incidents over the long weekend in Owen Sound.

The first incident occurred in Harrison Park on Saturday May 16 between 3:00 & 4:00 p.m. A Man was walking in Harrison Park near the seniors building and basketball courts. He came upon a woman and her young (red) boxer which is believed to be about 9 Months old, the dog was on its lead. When he petted the dog its claw caught his arm and scratched him breaking the skin.

The second incident occurred on the Rail Trail near 28th Street West just outside Owen Sound on Sunday May 17 around 11 a.m. A lady was bitten while riding her bike on the Rail Trail. A lady with a school aged child was walking with her 2 dogs, off leash. The medium sized multi-coloured dog (white, black and brown) bit the cyclist. The second dog was larger and bronze in colour but was not involved in the incident.

If you read our Facebook post last week and guessed "the city is selling the old Courthouse to Southbridge Care Homes", you would already be a winner.

Mayor Ian Boddy announced the conditional sale as an "ideal repurposing" of a heritage building that the city "had not maintained as it might have" over the years, and an opportunity to rejuvenate a "neat neighbourhood". He spoke of the well-paying health care jobs that would be created in the
long-term, and the design, engineering and construction jobs on the estimated $10 million-plus renovation and building project.

Southbridge's President, Keith McIntosh, said the plan is to create their first "community care hub" model on the site, with administrative offices in the court building, maintaining the facade and roofline, and a long-term care home with "related services" in an addition to the rear.
