Mayor Boddy gave this explanation to a local resident when asked about the old Courthouse sale.
Hi Karen
There were differing offers received for the Court House that the prior or present council considered. Heritage preservation and a satisfactory plan for the property were key factors. City staff met and corresponded with Southbridge over several months. After presentations and negotiations in confidence, an acceptable written offer was expected for this property from Southbridge.
The TOM staff had previously decided that they were not interested in this property. When they did express interest, they were told by me that the offer was coming and they were asked to wait for the outcome of that offer and not go public. They chose instead to go public days later and announced a public meeting.
The sale price is based on an estimated fair market value of property less the costs they will invest to remove the jail and walls.

Pictures of burning houses in Owen Sound seemed surreal. The images of destruction brought pain and anger. News reports said everyone escaped and that injuries were minor, so there was momentary relief. Then, the number of fire sites grew, and the fear of arson brought emotions that were deeply dislocating.
For those who watched flames consume their homes, pain and worry burned into their hearts and spirits. Those whose homes were destroyed were adrift: they did not know where they would sleep that night, where they would live. For the neighbours evacuated as a precaution, there was a mix of worry and hope.
Families lost everything, large and small. The photos and mementos that help a person to trace the story of their lives were gone for good. And for those who lived at the edge of their means, especially those with no insurance, each step forward was going to be hard work.
Community social services immediately rallied. Counsellors came to talk. Housing and support services got to work.
At the fires, Owen Sound Fire Services called in in the volunteers of Inter-township and Chatsworth. They fought hard to keep the blazes from spreading. Emergency Medical Services and Owen Sound Police were also ...
Dear Editor,
I would like to respond to recent comments by Patrick Mullin regarding a meeting on proportional representation. Mr. Mullin first contacted my office in late spring regarding two possible dates that he was planning meetings at the Owen Sound Library. I could not attend as Parliament was in session.
In July I was invited to a meeting on Aug 12th on the same subject. I was already committed to a number of events in the riding on that day but as a courtesy I agreed to send one of my staff. Not to participate, but to simply gather information from the meeting on my behalf. By his actions of mentioning my staff by name in media advisories etc., it was clear that Mr. Mullin's expectations of my staff's participation were much more than just being there to take notes. It would appear that Mr. Mullin was attempting to have my staff fill my spot when that was never the intention. He knew full well that was never the intention. No one "speaks" on my behalf.
Dear Editor,
Canada is a crack addict and has been since day one. As with all addicts we will have to wait until we hit bottom before we agree to go into rehab. The crack I am refering to is our natural resources. When things get tough we flail around to find another resource to exploit. In this area we brag to tourists (and ourselves) about all the barrels of fish that were caught and processed and sent someplace else. We brag about...
