As the Georgian Bay Symphony continues it's search for a new Music Director, Cuban-born Yunior Lopez will take the podium for its March 28 concert. Lopez is this year’s guest conductor for the Havana Virtuoso Orchestra and recently conducted the Las Vegas Honors Orchestra. Lopez is a conductor, chamber player, violist and ...cigar-maker. He will be donating a box of his cigars from his own cigar company in Kentucky, Don Lopez Cigars, as a silent auction item for the 16th Annual Vintners’ Dinner on April 18th.
The Georgian Bay Symphony is also pleased to welcome Russian born violinist, Stanislav Pronin back for a return engagement after a European tour.
Pronin has performed at Carnegie Hall and The National Arts Centre in Ottawa and in major venues and on television and radio in the United States, Canada, Europe and Israel.
The concert on March 28th is an evening of “Nothing But Classics”.Three well known pieces beginning with “The Thieving Magpie”, an overture by Rossini, which is as popular today as when it was first written. Rossini has over 500 movie credits to his name and is perhaps best known for his music being incorporated into many of the more popular Bugs Bunny skits.
The second piece, Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto”.will highlight the violin talents of guest artist, Stanislav Pronin. The evening will wrap up with perhaps one of the most well-known works of classical music, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.
The concert “Nothing But Classics” is on Saturday March 28th 7:30pm at the OSCVI Auditorium 8th Street East Owen Sound. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 519-372-0212 or at the door.
