sweetwaterThe SweetWater Music Festival presents its 2021 Next Wave Showcase from June 16 to 30. This is the third year SweetWater has put the spotlight on emerging, aspiring musicians between the ages of 14 to 29. Once again it takes place on an online stage.

This year’s performers were selected by SweetWater Artistic Director Edwin Huizinga from a record number of applicants.

“I am finding that the incredible creative and amazing high-level entries this year offer an incredible insight into how busy many of our younger generation has been this year making music a really big part of their lives,” notes Huizinga. “It gives me great hope to say that I am overjoyed with the level, the musicality, and the enthusiasm in all of the entries this year for our Next Wave Showcase.”

Though it was a challenge to get the final list down to 10, Huizinga came up with a diverse group of musicians for the 2021 Showcase, which includes performers from ages 14 to 27. SweetWater is looking forward to highlighting the talents of these young musicians: Adams & Busch (pianists); Antonia Cambre (cellist); Lincoln Haggart-Ives (violinist); Lauren Kohut (pianist); Jeffrey Paik (cellist); Anna Perrone (pianist); Camryn Ruthven (pianist/vocalist); Rowan Swarna-Small (pianist); Bridget Walsh (violinist); Emily Yarascavitch (violinist).

A special Showcase Preview will officially launch the Showcase and offer a quick look at each performance and includes an introduction by Huizinga. Each day from June 21 to 30 will feature one of the performers on the Showcase virtual stage (available to view via SweetWater’s website and social media streams, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). SweetWater will have all the performances available online to view after the official Showcase is over as well.

A special thanks to the Ontario Arts Council, Canadian Heritage, The Leflar Foundation, and Community Foundation Grey Bruce for their support of this event.
