On Friday, June 2, we officially launch Retrospective: A Selection Of Paintings And Lino Cuts Spanning Twenty Years by artist Tony Kenneth Miller.

tonymillerfaceNot only does this show feature paintings on escaping slavery but also other unique and dynamic paintings, some of which have not been shown before.

Retrospective also has a collection of linocut prints on archival paper. These prints are only a few of the collection represented in his graphic novel which tells the story of John Daddy Hall.

Tony Kenneth Miller was born and raised in Owen Sound in the fifties, at the beginning of the American Civil Rights movement and before the phrase Black Pride came into common use.

His ancestors on both sides of his family were escaped slaves that settled in Owen Sound, the last stop on the Underground Railroad.

“The psychological effects of the school system, religion and superstition as well as my one time almost non-existent identity have led me to appreciate the uniqueness of my culture and heritage. This knowledge has also let to my creative development. I create visual narratives that reflect African Canadian Diasporas as well as Canadian Landscapes and abstract paintings."

The Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op is honoured to host this show in our Legacy Gallery for the month of June.

We will be hosting an open house on Saturday, June 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All are welcome.

Tony will be present for the opening.  We encourage you to attend the opening and to take the time to see the work of the other artists in the co-op.
