Owen Sound Poets Laureate Rob Rolfe and Larry Jensen will be hosting a workshop on February 17, 2016 at the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library. Called "Pickers and Poets by Chance and for Change", the workshop will be an opportunity for spoken word poets and musicians to work together.
For the last few years Rob Rolfe and Larry Jensen have been developing projects that fuse the spoken word, songs, lyrics and poetry with instrumental music. Rolfe and Jensen are hoping that this workshop will encourage others to follow their lead. "I have found that stepping outside of the traditional singer/songwriter box has opened a new creative doorway," said Jensen.
At the workshop the Poets Laureate, along with other experienced musicians, will coach and provide feedback. "It is our hope that getting musicians, lyricists, poets and spoken word performers together will open even more collaborative, creative, connections," said Jensen. "Who knows? Let's try it."
The workshop will take place in the library auditorium on February 17 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Admission is free but space is limited so participation will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
The Poet Laureate 2015 to 2017 is a program of the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library with support from the Owen Sound Little Theatre. The program is generously sponsored by John A. Tamming Law, David Madill, CFP of BMO Nesbitt Burns, and Andrew Armitage.
