The TOM THOMSON ART GALLERY (TOM) is looking for a Weekend Gallery Attendant
JOB DESCRIPTION:
(Reports to the Partnerships & Marketing Manager)
Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge required
The Assistant will possess the following skills:
-minimum grade 12 education
-previous experience
- good interpersonal and organizational skills,
- good computer skills (computer-literate in word-processing )
- the ability to work independently and to deadlines.

Duties and responsibilities:
- taking off the Gallery Shop cash
- de-activate alarm
- turn on lights
- tour the Galleries - ensure all labels in place etc.
- unlock front doors
- unlock the connecting Library door
- open cash register for Volunteer
- advise Volunteer of anything special in the Gift Shop or if anything new is going on at
the Gallery. As it is usually a student on the weekend, they may not be as informed as
to Gallery goings on.
- help the volunteer with the cash procedures, answer any questions & replenish stock
from the Volunteer/Gift Shop office as needed.
- 4:50 p.m. lock the front door & inform any remaining visitors that we are closing soon.
Once the Gallery is empty, have the Volunteer add up the cash. Staff does a tour of
the Galleries, Storage area, under the atrium etc. and ensures that everything is
locked and secure.

- Work with Partnership & Marketing Manager to keep the Gallery Shop stocked with
product and supplies.
Specific tasks and projects would be assigned, dependant upon the needs of the
Gallery, and training would be provided.
The Weekend Gallery Attendant will work Saturday and Sunday of each week from 12
noon to 5:00 p.m.( or 10.a.m. to 5 p.m. and will work Thursday mornings from 9am to
11am. The Weekend Gallery Attendant will work holiday Mondays and will work, when
available for after hours special events.
Pay: $13/hr.
