The
Georgian Bay Concert Choir was started in September, 1972, when Professor Dilmore of the University of Western Ontario agreed to set up a community orchestra (now the Georgian Bay Symphony). He needed a group of singers to accompany the orchestra in some of the Christmas choruses from Handel's Messiah. That group of singers eventually became what's known today as Georgian Bay Concert Choir.
A registered charity, GBCC relies on membership fees, fundraising, donations and corporate sponsors to fund its programming. The annual Beer Tasting is an event where the choir strives to present a fun and informative experience to the audience, while building community awareness of the choir. Funds raised by the Beer Tasting and other fundraisers are used to pay guest musicians, professional soloists and music costs for our two main concerts each season.
The Beer Tasting event is on Saturday, November 5 at 7:00 PM, at Best Western Inn on the Bay in Owen Sound. Tickets are $60 and are available at Birgit's Pastry Café in the back of the Owen Sound Artists' Coop or at the Georgian Bay Symphony office. A charitable tax receipt is available for a portion of the ticket price.
