bandThe Scenic City Film Festival invites the community to attend a film screening fundraiser benefiting the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce. The partnership stems from the two groups looking for new ways to engage new audiences in Owen Sound, while contributing the local arts scene.

The film being screened is Pete McCormack's award-winning Spirit Unforgettable, a wildly powerful, devastating, and inspirational film about iconic Canadian folk-rock group, Spirit of the West, and frontman John Mann's struggle with early onset Alzheimer's Disease. He was diagnosed at age 51. The film chronicles the band's history and rise to fame, as well as the emergence of John's condition. The band continues to tour, despite John's declining memory and opts to take on one final performance at Toronto's legendary Massey Hall as a pseudo goodbye to the musical legacy of John's lyrics.

The film has won numerous awards at prestigious festivals throughout North America, including the Audience Choice Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival, and Top 3 Audience Choice Favourite at Toronto's Hot Docs International Canadian Documentary Festival.

The screening will be hosted in downtown Owen Sounds' Heartwood Concert Hall on Thursday March 23rd. Doors will open at 6:30pm and the show will begin at 7:30pm. A special musical performance by one half of Owen Sound's Poets Laureate, Larry Jensen, will kick off the evening. Larry has prepared a song for the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce entitled "Do You Know Me?" about his own struggle in dealing with his father's Alzheimer's.

To help raise awareness about Alzheimer's, a Q & A session with Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce Education Coordinator Sandra Hong will take place after the screening. Refreshments will be available from The Milk Maid Fine Food & Cheeses.

Tickets are available for $20 at Heartwood Home, at the door, and online via Ticketfly

(http://www.ticketfly.com/event/1427496-scenic-city-film-fest-spirit-owen-sound) with a large portion of the proceeds going to the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce to support local programs and services.

This event is generously supported by Goliger's Travel Plus in Owen Sound, and Katherine & Christopher Little.
