On Sunday June 25th, Summerfolk will host the sixth installment of the monthly Music Biz Tune Up workshop series at the Bleeding Carrot in downtown Owen Sound. In demand fiddler Rosalyn Dennett and guitar/banjo wizard Rob McLaren will provide performance tips and give direct feedback on participant performances.
Working musicians rely heavily on the quality of their performances to build a fan base and propel their careers. Professional feedback can help fledgling musicians sharpen their skills and ease the transition from living room practice to big stage performance. The June 25th performance workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals and get personalized feedback.
Participants can sign up to perform one song for feedback on a first come first served basis at the door on the day of the workshop.
The workshop facilitators are veterans of the Canadian music world. Rosalyn first established herself on the international folk scene through her role as one of the founding members of the highly acclaimed roots quartet Oh My Darling, producing four award-nominated albums, headlining multiple international tours, and selling out shows across the country. She followed her love of traditional music to Toronto where she quickly became a sought after session player working with the talented Ken Whiteley, Donovan Woods, Fred Penner, Kaia Kater, Hannah Shira Naiman, and Zachary Lucky, among others.
Rob McLaren is a musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and music teacher based in Toronto. He is a member of both Union Duke and The Barrel Boys and has performed sold-out shows across Canada and the United States. Rob received his Bachelor's of Music from Humber College in 2013.
Summerfolk is presenting Music Biz Tune Up workshops every month to help local musicians of all genres develop the business skills they need to start making a living from their music without having to leave the area to do it. The performance workshop will run from 1-3pm on June 25th at the Bleeding Carrott at 945 2nd Avenue East, Owen Sound. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Participants can register online at Summerfolk.org/musicbiztuneup or at the door on the day of the workshop. Registration is $20. Doors will open at 12:45pm.
