Sandcastle Theatre brings performing arts programs to all ages this fall.
Performing arts programs for both young people and adults get started this month, including rehearsals for Potter - the Panto. Sandcastle Theatre offers a variety of programs in theatre, music theatre, and dance that inspire youth to have fun, build confidence and build lasting friendships while they collaborate and create.
Classes will be held weeknights and weekends, with start dates in
September. Programs are offered for ages 3 and up, with instruction continuing into the teenage years and beyond. "TheatreKids Sprouts" classes for ages 3 - 5 are being offered for the first time this fall in Owen Sound. TheatreKids classes for ages 5- 15 are offered in Owen Sound, Collingwood and Meaford, with Musical Theatre and Dance classes being on the Meaford schedule as well.
In addition to classes for young people, ages 8 to adult are invited to join the cast of Potter - the Panto. A final round of auditions and open read-throughs will be held in September for Potter - the Panto, which will be performed in December, 2017. The production of Potter - the Panto will tell tales of magic with singing and dancing, physical comedy and jokes for all ages, plus opportunities for audience participation.
The hilarious musical will be performed in four different communities this Christmas season – Port Elgin, Owen Sound, and Collingwood– each with a different, local cast. This will make each production (Collingwood, Saugeen Shores, and Owen Sound) slightly different from the others.
One of Sandcastle Theatre's mandates is to make the arts more accessible for young people and their families. With a large production like this, it is possible to cast a large number of actors, and there are both large and smaller roles available – making Potter - the Panto a great opportunity for people who have always wanted to give performing a try. No experience is required, as instruction is provided in singing, dancing, and acting in weekly musical theatre classes and rehearsals.
"We believe that every individual has incredible creative potential if they are provided with a supportive environment, empowered to contribute their unique ideas and perspectives and encouraged to take risks and meet challenges," says Sandcastle Theatre's artistic director, Stephanie Fowler. "Theatre has the ability to do so much more than entertain, while providing a positive experience for both our performers and our audiences."
