Rrampt and OSC Media House are teaming up to bring a Whisky and Blues event to Owen Sound's Heartwood Hall on Saturday, January 27. The event will feature legendary Canadian blues artist, Harrison Kennedy, winner of the 2016 Juno for Best Blues Album. The whisky will be represented by Collingwood Whisky, who will be in house to offer tastings of their new Double Barrelled and chat about their process.
Harrison Kennedy, of the famed group Chairmen of the Board, will be playing two sets that will draw from his accomplished solo career spanning over seven albums and five decades. He has received six Juno nominations in the Blues category and his 2016 effort, This is From Here, took home the prized Best Blues Album award.
The intermission will offer a chance for Collingwood Whisky to take centre stage with their new offering, and guests will have the chance to try drinks such as Maple Manhattans, Old Fashions, and Whisky Sours from a menu created specially for the evening.
Whisky and Blues is the first collaboration between the two local culture organizations, Rrampt.com, run by Jesse Wilkinson, and OSC Media House, run by Nelson Phillips.
"Nelson approached me with the idea for a blues event in this area, and I thought it was a great idea. We both dig the blues, and thought this area could use a little more of it. But we knew we needed something else: that's when we decided to add the whisky and Collingwood was excited to be on board. Everything just fell into place," says Wilkinson.
"Having the opportunity to collaborate on an event like this one in Owen Sound kind of makes you give your head a shake and realize how far this community has come over the last few years. Blues shows of this caliber are traditionally reserved for more cosmopolitan centres, which is ironic because the blues share strong roots with rural spaces. Coupled with this town's history of prohibition – a whisky and blues show seems like the perfect way to warm up in the dead of winter" Phillips says.
OSC Media House is based in Owen Sound – focusing on film photography, graphic design, and publishing. They produce films and write for numerous clients and publications about the elements, music, northern culture, and the great outdoors.
Rrampt is a local website, that covers culture, music, the arts, and local interests. It promotes local writers, photographers, artists, and business owners and offers a unique take on current events and trends. This will be Rrampt's third event in Owen Sound after last spring's Lebowskifest and this past fall's 90s Night: Battle of the Bands.
Tickets for Whisky and Blues are $25 and are available at Heartwood Home and Ticketfly.
