Bilingual folk duo Georgian Bay releases Volume 1 of their album Courage in Owen Sound on Thursday June 7th. Part of a 12 date album release tour, Georgian Bay is joining forces with Guelph based band The Lifers and Owen Sound's own Jon Lawless of swim good now at Heartwood Hall, at 939 2nd Ave E on June 7th 2018 at 7:30PM
The theme of Georgian Bay's newest release, in unison with its title, is Courage. Beginning with the strong and pulsating sound of Canyon, Georgian Bay's first single is true to this central theme. Musically rooted in the folk tradition, the harmonies of Kelly Lefaive and Joëlle Westman remain the trademark sound of the bilingual duo. Their voices soar above a rich and nuanced instrumentation, provided by a dozen musical collaborators.
True to the folk tradition, Courage reacts to the current socio-political climate, addressing mental health issues in Canyon, women's rights in Roi and the importance of the environment in August. "Courage is a celebration of humanity's resilience in the face of adversity," affirms Kelly Lefaive, "the album reflects our experiences in this changing world".
In Courage Volume 1, Georgian Bay combines English songs Heaven, August and Toronto to their French compositions Roi, Océan and Courageux. Their single Canyon is completely bilingual. "It is a privilege to be able to create in two languages" Joëlle Westman explains, "It gives us a unique liberty of expression to our artistic work". Georgian Bay plans to release Courage Volume 2 in fall 2018.
Tickets for the June 7th release are 15$ for Advance and 20$ at the door.
