Many of the shops that line our waterways in downtown Owen Sound have temporarily given up a little space for fish! Paintings of fish and waterscapes will be showcased for about a month starting August 23 with "Finned Swimmers in the Sound", a multi-site art exhibit featuring local artists.
"Finned Swimmers in the Sound" coincides with the return of spawning salmon and Owen Sound's Salmon Spectacular. Seven local artists provided paintings of fish and waterscapes for the community art show.
One artist is featured with one painting in one storefront.
"So far I've run the MAS Project as a free event for the purpose of building local artist's visibility while bringing new customers and exposure to downtown shops." says Hicks, whose artwork is also featured in the "Finned Swimmers" exhibit. "We had so many merchants wanting to participate this time I included my own art to fill as many requests as possible."
The exhibition runs to September 20.
This is the second MAS (Merchants and Artists in the Sound) Project. For information on how to join upcoming MAS Projects contact the coordinator at www.hicksinthesound.simdif.com
