Good EyeThe Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is preparing for the art exhibition featuring paintings by Sharon Barfoot, artist and Sauble Beach resident. This beautiful art exhibition highlight’s Sharon’s approach to the work as minimalist, where she applies the Buddhist concept of Miksang.

Miksang is a Tibetan word meaning “good eye” where it is asked that we view the world in a new way; a way that is always fresh as if seeing it for the first time. Sharon has enjoyed a long and varied career in the arts that has included costume and jewelry design, teaching, graphics, curating and, most recently, painting full-time. “I think of my painting as a visual storytelling. When I approach the empty canvas, I am never sure what that story will be. I just witness the events as they unfold moment by moment as I make the white go away.” says Sharon, and about the show “The work in this exhibit, involves going deeper into a kind of meditation. The paintings and prints presented, involve moving beyond my primary sense of sight. It is the culmination of the materially present, and the invisible but visceral and emotive qualities of my experience with the landscape.”

Enjoy an afternoon of art and light refreshments with the opening reception for “Good Eye: Responding to the Landscape by Sharon Barfoot” Saturday, June 15 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the exhibition runs until September 2, 2019; all are welcome.

“The BCM&CC actively pursues opportunities to create exhibitions that highlight Bruce County residents and artists; this show is an example of this work.” states Cathy McGirr, Director, Museum & Cultural Services “We are excited to have worked with Sharon to create this exhibition.”

The BCM&CC is open daily Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for additional details on this exhibit, programs and events please visit www.brucemuseum.ca.
