Snow white theatre campA keen group of talented local youth are not sitting on the couch playing video games or glued to a screen, but rather spending two weeks preparing to stage a twisted musical take on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

“Theatre is an excellent opportunity for youth to gain confidence, meet new friends and explore talent they may not have known they had,” said Matt Evans, Executive Director of the Roxy Theatre. “We, as adults, struggle to explain to young teens the benefits of getting involved in projects like this. Seeing is believing; if you bring your child or grandchild to this show, they will see other kids just like them sing, dance and act and that may inspire them to try it out for themselves,” added Evans.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will hit The Roxy’s stage on Friday, July 26th at 2 and 6pm. This unique take on the familiar fairy-tale classic is based on Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes series, and follows Snow White as she cleverly schemes to scoop up the Magic Mirror in a dash for freedom and fortune, aided by a turncoat huntsman and seven ex-jockey dwarfs.

Professional singer/actor Christy Taylor is directing the production. “One of the benefits of doing a summer program is the opportunity to mentor young artists,” Taylor said. Working with Christy as assistant director for this year’s production is Gillian Hallman, currently in her final year at the prestigious George Brown Theatre School in Toronto. “The future of this industry is dependent upon the sharing of information in all aspects of theatre and the encouragement of the next generation,” Taylor added.
