Hello friends:
Mossy Gatherings is back! It is an Owen Sound based not-for-profit group of volunteers who organize concerts and educational opportunities. Many people in the community have said that they miss the intimate listening environment and the community building that has always been a part of Mossy Gatherings.
After a three-year break, a new series of musical events in St. George’s Hall and occasionally in the church – 1049 4th Avenue East will be hosted. This space is accessible to everyone and welcomes persons of all ages. It offers an environment that encourages no talking or walking around during performances. St. George's Hall and the church are beautiful and pleasant spaces that are conducive to listening and community building. They are comfortable for both musicians and listeners. Mossy Gatherings is proud to announce partnership with St. George’s.
There will be one show a month, from September to June, held on the Friday or Saturday in the middle of each month. A variety of musical genres will be presented throughout the series, from folk, to jazz, to classical. Mossy Gatherings want to provide quality musical entertainment at modest prices.
Admission to all shows will be $10. Tickets for all shows can be purchased at Fotoart at 842 2nd Avenue East on main street in Owen Sound or online at www.mossygatherings.com.
Mossy Gatherings’ vision is to build relationships with the wider community. The work of other community organizations and initiatives will be supported through a special focus at each event. There will be an education/awareness component. For example, a representative from The Canadian Cancer Society has been invited to attend and speak for five minutes at the first show on September 21st. At every show, someone will talk briefly about how their organization is helping to heal the community, how people can access and benefit from their services, and how people can help in their projects too. Usually the initiative is one that is close to the musical guest’s heart. If there are any proceeds left after paying the musicians and the other expenses of the events, there will be a donation to the worthy cause.
The concerts will not be for profit. Mossy Gatherings will provide engaging experiences for musicians and audiences and benefits for the community.
